Please Be a Lifeline for Animals Like Atticus
Atticus was found abandoned on a hard rubbish pile—cold, frail, and heartbreakingly thin. This five-year-old Staghound was so emaciated, he could barely lift his head.
At The Lost Dogs’ Home, he was rushed straight into emergency care. He was dangerously cold, severely underweight, and badly dehydrated, and without urgent treatment, likely just hours from losing his fight for life.
But Atticus wasn’t ready to give up. And neither were we.
Thanks to kind-hearted people like you, Atticus received life-saving veterinary treatment and the loving, round-the-clock care he desperately needed.
Within a week, he was wagging his tail.
By day 12, he was eating and drinking on his own.
By day 15, he went for his first walk.
And on day 17, he found his voice again.
On day 55, he found his forever home.
Today, Atticus is thriving—enjoying long walks, cosy beds, and all the cuddles he could hope for in his loving forever home.
But his recovery was only possible because of you.
Please donate today in support of life-saving care at the Home. Together, we can help more brave animals like Atticus find warmth, safety, and a second chance.

Atticus arrived at the shelter wrapped in a blanket, carried in the arms of one of our Animal Ambulance Drivers.

Our vet team worked quickly to stabilise him—warming his body, rehydrating him, and gently starting him on food.

Atticus was heartbreakingly frail—but we could see the spark in him. He wasn’t ready to give up.
“I was visibly upset when I first saw Atticus. We’re all animal lovers at the Home. We never want to see an animal suffer. And Atticus was suffering so badly… just skin and bones. He was at death’s door.”
- Mel, Veterinary Nurse for The Lost Dogs’ Home
Give the Gift of Warmth, Safety and Love this Winter
Every single day, more than 40 lost and abandoned pets arrive at our shelter—cold, frightened, and in desperate need of help. This winter alone, we expect over 4,000 cats and dogs to come through our doors.
Some are injured and need urgent medical attention. Others arrive so weak they can barely stand. All of them need warmth, safety, and the chance to heal.
And they’re depending on people like you.
The Lost Dogs’ Home receives no ongoing government funding. It’s the kindness of animal lovers like you that makes so much of our work possible—every treatment, every bowl of food, every warm, safe place to rest.
Please make a life-saving gift today to help care for the ones who have no one else.

Atticus’ incredible journey touched hearts across Victoria—featured in newspapers and on TV, including the Herald Sun.

Your gift could provide soft blankets and comforting toys, helping a lost pet feel safe and warm again.

Your gift could help fund vital treatments and tests, giving a sick or injured pet the best chance to heal.

Your gift could help cover desexing and vaccinations, helping a beloved pet get ready for their forever home.
